Summary Waste Water Treatment Technician is responsible for managing a system of pumps and machines to transfer or treat water or wastewater. Job Duties * Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment system (WTS), sludge drying and various pre-treatment facilities used to treat process wastewater and waste by-products to meet or exceed all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permit requirements. * Monitors equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Collects water samples for chemical analysis. * Conducts tests and inspections on water or waste water and evaluates the results. * Checks and fills chemical feed tanks as necessary. * Empties filter press (keeps hopper empty) and cleans pH/ORP sensors and calibrates pH/ORP sensors. * Completes water and facility logs. * Washes down chrome scrubbers. * Cleans filter baskets on P-11 and P-31. * Pumps out containment trenches and pits as needed. * Cleans clarifier troughs and overflow; cleans the Parshall flume. * Performs drum cleaning and disposal. * Collects wastewater samples daily. * Adds salt to facility main RO system water softener brine tank. * Changes the RO filters, 5 and 20 micron on facility RO unit. * Maintains a clean waste water treatment area by washing down the area, equipment, and driveway. * Monitors discharge pH twice per hour per EPA requirements. * Performs maintenance and repairs on air pumps. * Maintains required regulatory inspection paperwork * Performs batch treatment of stored tank and drum waste. * Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. * Identify, remove, pack, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead-based paint, waste oil, fuel, transmission fluid, radioactive materials, or contaminated soil. Specialized training and certification in hazardous materials handling or a confined entry permit are generally required. * May operate earth-moving equipment or forklifts. Educational and Work Experience Requirements * High School diploma required. 3+ years of waste treatment experience. Knowledge of waste management operations. * Requires excellent written, verbal, mechanical, interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a production oriented environment. * Background in industrial waste water treatment, particularly hexavalent chrome and cyanide. * Ability to work with minimal guidance in a fast-paced and ever changing production environment.  * Ability to organize and prioritize work and make appropriate decisions. Essential Physical Requirements * Ability to lift 50 pounds. * Ability to alternate standing and sitting for 8 hours. * Ability to see or correct to 20/20. * Ability to hear. * Ability to distinguish color (pass a colorblind test). * Ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms. * Ability to stoop and bend. * Ability to use arms and hands.
