Description TITLE: EQUIPMENT OPERATOR PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to operate heavy motorized equipment in the construction and maintenance of the City’s infrastructure and the collection and disposal of the City’s solid waste. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Operates a variety of heavy equipment in the installation and repair of the City’s roads and water/wastewater utilities, and in the collection and disposal of refuse. Performs preventive maintenance work on equipment and vehicles; services and makes minor repairs to equipment and vehicles; cleans and properly stores equipment and tools after use. Inspects equipment prior to operation; fuels equipment as needed. Ensures cleanliness and safety of work area. Delivers equipment to and from outside repair facilities. Maintains logs of work completed, work orders, fuel used, and equipment and supplies used. Assists with snow removal as needed. Flags traffic at work site; sets up barricades. Performs crew worker duties when not operating equipment. Operates dumpster truck, dump truck, snow removal equipment, chipper, leaf vacuum, log splitter, garbage truck, chain saw, shovel, rake, weed eater, jet rodder, easement machine, electric eel, electric saw, backhoe, ventilator, tripod, roller, sheeps foot machine, air compressor, radio or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. Installs new taps. Cleans main sewer lines; cleans inside manholes and wet wells. Installs new sewer lines; digs up, repairs, and replaces sewer lines; cuts roots from main sewer lines. Raises manholes; installs new manholes. Repairs roads with blacktop. Spreads gravel, repairs landscapes. Assists with camera operations. Cleans roads for other departments. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Assists in maintaining and repairing equipment. Performs general building and landscape cleaning and maintenance. Performs other related duties as required. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s).
