Job Details Job Location: Bernalillo, NM 87004 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: High School Salary Range: $19.62 - $24.53 Hourly Job Shift: Day Job Category: Facilities/Maintenance The goal of the Operator in Training (OIT) is to prepare individuals for a career as operators in the Water/Wastewater Industry. The OIT will assist individuals with becoming well trained, certified Water Treatment, or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators who are qualified to perform their duties in a professional, safe, and permit compliant manner. Participates in the operations and maintenance of water/wastewater treatment equipment according to applicable rules and regulations; collects various water/wastewater samples; keep accurate records and logs on all lift station activities. Report any failures or operating difficulties to appropriate staff; Assists in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of lift stations throughout the Pueblo of Sandia; performs preventive maintenance on all lift station equipment. Adjusts and maintains all water/wastewater treatment plant processing equipment; investigates equipment failure, determines cause and takes necessary action. Maintains and operates various vehicles land equipment including dump truck and landscaping tools; performs a variety of landscaping work as needed. Interpret and act on information taken from SCADA, gauges, meters, charts, and other instruments; Operates computers, generators, automatic sampling system and associated treatment equipment. Assists Operator I, II & Lead on projects. Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Perform general housekeeping duties such as sweeping, cleaning, hosing down tanks, walkways, rooms and cleaning tanks and other equipment; and perform related duties as required Qualifications 18 years of age; High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain a New Mexico Water and Wastewater I Certificate within 1 and 6 months of employment.
Responsibilities
The Operator in Training will assist in the operations and maintenance of water/wastewater treatment equipment and perform preventive maintenance on lift station equipment. They will also collect samples, keep accurate records, and respond to public inquiries.
