Description A Yard Jockey is responsible for operating a terminal tractor and moving semi-trailers within container yards and warehouse environments. During day-to-day operations, yard jockeys must multitask to perform duties within a fast-paced environment under minimal supervision. Responsibilities: · Drive tractor-trailer within yard, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill while maneuvering on company premises.· Move empty trailers to shipping doors, set loaded trailers to the doors and remove loaded/empty trailers from dock doors.· Maintain safe and efficient dock operation by switching trailers and equipment to and from docks.· Perform daily yard checks.· Maintain accurate records and/or logs as required by policies and procedures.· Inspect truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water. Notify supervision of current or anticipated repair needs.· Comply with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.· Ability to seal trailer.· Maintain tracking log for trailer moves and dock assignments.· Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Critical Skills: · Detail-oriented · Working knowledge of computerized hand-held devices · Dependability · Time Management · Adherence to Company's policies and procedures; specifically, attendance and shipping policies Physical Requirements and Essential Functions: · Reliable attendance required. · Capability to climb in and out of the spotter truck numerous times per day, hooking and unhooking trailers. · Maintain a positive, productive, and professional relationship with customers. · Ability to maintain very high proficiency and job standard while working in a non-temperature-controlled environment that includes exposure to heat, high humidity, and inclement weather. · Availability to work long hours based on the needs of the business including daily overtime, holidays and overtime as required.
Responsibilities
