ABOUT US

Greencable is a fast-growing, forward-thinking company based in Burntwood, South Staffordshire. We specialise in the recycling of scrap metal and cable within the construction industry, focusing on electricians, plumbers, and auto scrap.
We’re on a mission to reshape how the industry works — with customer service, efficiency, and team spirit at the core of everything we do. Our goal is to become one of the UK’s leading scrap metal companies.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a reliable, motivated individual to join our team as a Scrap Metal Yard Operative with Mechanical Support. If you’re someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, has strong mechanical and organisational skills, and enjoys working as part of a growing team, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

This is a dual-role position involving both scrap yard operations and mechanical support responsibilities.
You’ll be responsible for processing different grades of scrap metal, serving customers, and operating machinery such as forklifts and 360 material handlers (training provided if needed).
A key part of this role is managing the planning, organisation, and execution of mechanical work — including preventative maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs. You’ll be expected to ensure that all mechanical tasks are actioned efficiently to minimise downtime across our fleet and equipment.
To support this, you’ll be provided with access to a computer, and will be responsible for managing spreadsheets, job sheets, maintenance schedules, and emails. A level of IT literacy is essential.
You’ll also be given your own dedicated workshop space, which you’ll manage autonomously to keep tools, records, and repairs in top order.
This is a long-term position with real opportunities for professional development and career progression in a thriving industry.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve customers professionally and assist with metal grading
  • Operate forklifts and 360 material handlers to move and process scrap (training available)
  • Sort and weigh metal material using various tools
  • Carry out local collections using a 3.5T vehicle
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety across the yard, warehouse, and workshop
  • Manage and action all mechanical servicing, repairs, and inspections efficiently
  • Oversee preventative maintenance planning to reduce downtime
  • Use digital tools (spreadsheets, email, software) to manage job sheets and maintenance records
  • Take ownership of your workshop area, ensuring tools and workspace are organised
  • Collaborate with the wider team to maintain smooth operations
