Responsibilities

YARD MANAGER – ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Yard Manager oversees day-to-day operations in the recycling yard. This includes staff, materials, machinery, health and safety, and workflow efficiency.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operational Oversight
  • Supervise yard workers and assign daily tasks.
  • Ensure the smooth movement, sorting, and processing of recyclables.
  • Health and Safety Compliance
  • Enforce safety protocols and regulations (PPE, fire safety, machine use).
  • Conduct risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Inventory and Stock Control
  • Monitor incoming/outgoing materials.
  • Equipment and Machinery Management
  • Ensure all yard machinery (loaders, forklifts, compactors) is operated safely.
  • Schedule maintenance and report faults.
  • Staff Management
  • Supervise and train yard personnel.
  • Manage shift rotas, attendance, and performance.
  • Site Cleanliness and Organisation
  • Keep the yard tidy, well-organized, and compliant with environmental regulations.

RUN AND REPAIRS – ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Focuses on maintaining the vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure involved in transporting and processing recyclables.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fleet Management
  • Oversee company vehicles (trucks, collection vans).
  • Schedule and track vehicle servicing, MOTs, and repairs.
  • Maintenance Scheduling
  • Plan regular servicing of equipment to prevent breakdowns.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs swiftly to reduce downtime.
  • Workshop Supervision
  • Manage workshop staff and mechanics.
  • Ensure tools and parts are available and used correctly.
  • Record Keeping
  • Maintain logs of maintenance, repairs, and part replacements.
  • Track repair costs and work within budgets.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment meet environmental and transport regulations.
  • Vendor and Contractor Coordination
  • Liaise with external repair shops, parts suppliers, and service providers.
