JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Yard Supervisor oversees all yard personnel and activities, including serving customers in the yard and maintaining receiving, unloading, and delivery schedules. This role provides timely receipt of product and oversight of all yard activities and personnel including serving customers in the drive thru and yard, maintaining receiving, unloading and delivery schedules. They must execute on the operating budget and supervise compliance with safety and fire regulations. The Yard Supervisor must perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have 5+ years minimum experience with successful proven record as a supervisor
  • Working knowledge of warehouse, yard and delivery operations and assets
  • Related logistics background in a similar industry.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication skills and initiation through incredible drive and teamwork achieving goals in an efficient manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, coaching and mentoring employees, maintain a positive attitude and sense of urgency.
  • Inventory Management skills are a must.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high quality of work.
  • Strong customer service experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Must read, comprehend and interpret written and printed materials, and information provided in numerical and statistical form.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to oversee the safety operation of equipment required for efficient yard operation including fleet of trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, order pickers, banding machines, ladders, table saw, mitre saw
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Reports directly to Management.
  • All weather environments, working outside in the elements.
  • Lifting and/or carrying of merchandise items, as required, on a regular, frequent and unassisted basis. Building material items may vary in weight.
  • Walking and carrying at the same time & pushing/pulling as required.

COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Yard Supervisor:
- Establish and maintain a professional environment, ensuring the best possible experience for customers and associates.
- Accurately schedule yard associates to ensure proper coverage of the yard.
- Schedule and maintain delivery schedule to customers
- Organizing the yard for effective and efficient management of building materials.
- Move throughout the yard to monitor the activities of employees, assist customers, check inventory status, and verify the safety and security of the yard.
- Assume responsibilities for all yard activities.
- Supervise yard personnel, keeping productivity at peak levels.
- Supervise customer service in the yard.
- Develop and maintain receiving, unloading, and delivery schedules.
- Supervise the maintenance and safe operation of yard equipment, including forklifts, carts, pallet jack, radial arm saw, etc.
- Keep costs at or below levels determined by the Manager or Dealer-Owner.
- Supervise compliance with safety and fire regulations.
- Establish and maintain policies which minimize waste and employ labour hours productively.
- Bring actual or anticipated operating problems promptly to the attention of management.
- Make suggestions for rule or policy changes when such changes improve sales, profits, efficiency, morale, and/or operations in general.
- Provide feedback and ensure accountability, mentor and build the team while rewarding and praising good work.
- Provide a good example for employees under your supervision by following company policies and procedures.
- Acknowledge customers in a friendly manner and provide assistance when required.
- When filling orders, consider add-on sales when possible, and train employees under your supervision to do the same.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Establish and maintain a professional environment, ensuring the best possible experience for customers and associates.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures through proper handling of merchandise and company equipment.
General:
-
- Guarantee building materials in the yard are covered and neatly presented, and aisles are clear.
- Perform day-to-day administrative tasks such as processing paperwork, maintaining daily shipping and receiving records and ensuring invoices and packing slips are handed to the office daily.
- Operate two-way radio and cellphone to receive instruction and provide updates.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Work on additional duties, special projects and assignments assigned by the General Manager or Owners.
- Always maintain professional demeanour and behave in a manner befitting company policy and expectations.
- Set the bar high for providing premium building materials and unparallel customer service.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as the use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
- Walk the drive thru everyday to ensure task lists are being completed as assigned
