Position Overview   Opportunity type: Internship Duration: 12 months (Full-time) July 2026 - July 2027 Salary: $58,893 / Year Additional benefits: +15.4% super Location: Sutherland Shire, Sydney About the Opportunity Looking to gain a competitive edge ahead of graduation?   If you are completing a degree in Science and are keen to apply your knowledge in a real-world research environment, the ANSTO Year in Industry (YII) Internship Program offers a unique opportunity to build practical experience alongside leading scientists and engineers.   Designed for penultimate-year students, this 12-month full-time program, commencing in July 2026, provides hands-on, industry-based learning. You will apply your academic knowledge in a professional setting while developing skills and experience that will enhance the value of your remaining studies and future career.   Important: This is a full-time placement, and participants are required to defer their university studies for the duration of the program.Your Placement As an intern within ANSTO’s Centre for Accelerator Science (CAS), you will:     Work in specialised chemistry and analytical laboratories Support sample preparation, processing, and analysis workflows Develop skills in scientific instrumentation and laboratory procedures Contribute to data collection, validation, and reporting within a research environment Gain exposure to world-class advanced analytical techniques such as Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS)   This placement provides a unique opportunity to work within Australia’s leading nuclear science and technology infrastructure.     Eligibility & Application     Preferred fields of study: •              Chemistry •              Earth Science •              Environmental Science     To be eligible, applicants must:   Be an Australian citizen Be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance and pass a pre-employment medical assessment Be currently enrolled in a relevant science-related degree, ideally in their penultimate year Be available to undertake a full-time, 12-month placement and commit to deferring university studies for the duration of the program About Us ANSTO leverages great science to deliver big outcomes.
