EDUCATION:

  • MS or PhD in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • MS with 2+ years or PhD with 0+ years of industrial or academic experience in microbial fermentation; experience in downstream processing (DSP) is a plus.
  • Proven experience in operating fermenters, including setup, sampling, and troubleshooting both hardware and software.

SKILLS:

  • Quick learner, open to adopting new methods and techniques.
  • Familiarity with statistical data analysis and programming languages.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in a biotech startup environment.
  • Knowledge of yeast fermentation and developing high-cells density cultivations
  • Experience working with pilot plant reactors and biochemistry analyzers is advantageous.
Responsibilities
  • Experimental Design: Design and conduct bench-scale experiments using well plates, flasks, and bioreactors to enhance upstream process key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Process Optimization: Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to optimize fermentation processes and facilitate tech transfer to pilot plant bioreactors.
  • Documentation: Author and modify standard operating protocols (SOPs) to ensure compliance and efficiency in fermentation processes.
  • Data Analysis: Contribute to process improvement efforts through effective experimental design and data processing; analyze and present data in visual or tabular formats.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate findings, recommendations, and next steps to bioprocess leadership.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior research team members, assisting with lab scheduling, organization, and execution of experiments.
  • Literature Review: Conduct literature reviews to stay updated on new technologies, processes, and protocols relevant to yeast fermentation.
