Description This program supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Camp Counselor plans, leads, and implements age-appropriate camp programming for children enrolled in Hampton’s Camp Greenway. Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising campers, ensuring their safety and well-being, and creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging camp experience through structured activities, group games, and outdoor play. POSITION SUMMARY Supervise campers ranging in age from 5 to 14 years old. Lead and support daily camp activities including group games, sports and movement activities, arts and crafts, outdoor play, theme-based activities, and special events. Actively engage with campers to promote participation, positive behavior, teamwork, and inclusion. Guide campers through a structured daily schedule, including transitions between activities. Know, enforce, and follow all YMCA and Camp Greenway safety guidelines, policies, and procedures. Utilize YMCA behavior management strategies to support campers, redirect behaviors, and resolve conflicts in a positive and respectful manner. Maintain accurate supervision and accountability of campers at all times. Assist with set-up, clean-up, and general organization of activity spaces throughout the day. Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and organization of indoor and outdoor program areas. Adhere to YMCA policies related to professional boundaries with campers and families. Complete all required abuse prevention and risk management trainings. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations in accordance with YMCA protocols. Follow all mandated child abuse reporting requirements. Adhere to all job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities. Support fellow staff members and contribute to a collaborative camp team environment. Perform other duties as assigned by Camp leadership. QUALIFICATIONS Prior experience working with children preferred. Familiarity with various camp activities. Patient and reliable. Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information. Organizational and communication skills. Energetic and positive personality. Must be able to complete YMCA required training as scheduled by management. Must maintain updated certifications of the job (CPR and First Aid/AED). Must successfully clear FBI and state criminal background checks. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time. Ability to bend, kneel, push, and pull. Ability to lift up to 15lbs.
