Position: YOU Turns Strategic Coordinator - RHS catchment
Term: Full-time position, one-year contract
Reports to: YOU Turns Strategic Coordinator Manager
United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern NB Region, along with government and other partners, is working to ensure youth facing mental health and addiction challenges and their families are connected to the resources they require for a successful life.
We are hiring a Regional Strategic Coordinator in the Riverview High School catchment to address the identified gap of assisting troubled teens with receiving their education. The Strategic Coordinator will focus on the development and functioning of high school students by creating circles of care through collaboration and communication with community partners to foster a sense of connection and belonging for the student and family. The Strategic Coordinator acts as a liaison between the multiple partners and agencies that provide services while working directly with the students and their families.

Role of Regional Strategic Coordinator:

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with students and families to allow processes for personal wellness to occur. This may include “cold calls” as part of outreach initiatives.
  • Work closely with and act as a liaison to facilitate the sharing of information between community and school-based professionals.
  • Proactively identify programs, services and supports in the surrounding community that contribute to building resilience in youth and families.
  • Conduct comprehensive case management of individual student files.
  • Accompany youth to access community supports and services on an as required basis.
  • Advocate for the rights of the child when required.
  • Attend monthly YOU Turns Partner meetings and present on trends and solution focused initiatives.
  • Engage in outreach work such as attending Youth Court, routine visits to Portage Atlantic and NBYC to maintain authentic and trusting relationships as well as assist with transitioning the student back to school.
  • Facilitate or participate in YOU Turns summer programming for students.
  • Engage and provide support to family systems as required and when in the best interest of youth.

Experience & Qualifications:
v Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth aged 11 to 18 years old.
v Demonstrate an understanding of Addiction and Mental Health.
v Demonstrate an understanding of trauma informed care.
v Demonstrate an understanding of how to de-escalate potentially violent situations.
v Demonstrate an understanding of how to conduct suicide intervention.
v Demonstrate an understanding of Collective Impact.
v Demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills as well as be able to multi-task.
v Ability to work collaboratively with parents, school officials and community-based organizations towards ensuring best intent for youth.
v Have a strong understanding of the developmental stages of child and youth development.
v Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
v Passion to contribute to the well-being and progress of youth who are at risk of or have become disconnected from school.
v Experience using strength based and anti-oppressive approaches.
A degree in Psychology, Sociology, or Criminology
Or
A diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Service Community Worker, Human Services Counselor or Policing
and Corrections
