Some days caring brings great joy, but some days it can be lonely or a little overwhelming. No matter how you feel today, Carer Gateway will be just a phone call away. Carer Gateway is an initiative to provide carers with information combined with practical and emotional support.
The Young Carer Coordinator role is best suited to someone who has recently received their degree in a social related field and is wishing to embark on a career supporting young people to achieve their goals.

DUTIES

  • Work closely with Young Carers (aged under 25) to provide them with the support they desperately need in their caring role.
  • Assist Young Carers in managing their caring responsibilities and provide guidance on how to balance their caring role with school, social life and other commitments.
  • Help Young Carers to develop their confidence, self-esteem and social skills to make and maintain friendships and socialise outside of their caring role.
  • Collaborate with other team members to develop and deliver tailored programs and activities that meet the specific needs of Young Carers.
  • Engage with the community through various channels, including public speaking engagements, to foster dialogue, address concerns, and promote transparency.

We want you to be successful in your new role! This means you’ll have:

  • Experience as a Case Worker, Case Manager or Social Worker working with young people.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a social studies related field.
  • A passion for helping Young Carers live their best lives while they support a loved one to have a better quality of life.
  • Ability to develop initial service plans in collaboration with the customer, carers, medical and allied health professionals and referring agencies as appropriate, ensuring it meets the customer’s needs, goals, preferences and eligibility.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to create an experience where a caller quickly feels heard and comfortable, often at a time when the caller may feel emotional, confused or frustrated navigating systems they may not understand in time of emotional stress.
  • Ability to connect to young people from all walks of life.
  • Comfortable working from our Hurstville office and travelling to inner, northern, eastern and western suburbs areas of Sydney and Wollongong for community outreach
