Responsibilities

A BIT ABOUT THE ROLE

The Gael Og Youth Service supports young people aged 11 to 18 and their families through a mix of one-to-one sessions, group work, parenting support, and family-based interventions. We focus on building strong, trusting relationships and offer intensive support during times of crisis or challenge.

Our service has two main aims:

  • To prevent placement breakdown, whether the young person is living at home or in residential care.
  • To support smooth transitions for young people returning to live in their local communities.

We work closely with families to offer practical tools and emotional support, helping both parents and young people manage difficult emotions and behaviours. This intensive approach helps bring more stability to home life and improves the overall wellbeing of the family.
Our goals are to support young people and their families through therapeutic, tailored interventions that promote positive outcomes and prevent the need for alternative care placements and enable successful transitions back to local communities by working in partnership with other agencies, understanding individual levels of need, and providing consistent, structured support.

Some key responsibilities for the role are;

  • Overseeing, delivering and evaluating individual work aimed at helping parents and young people to develop their abilities through assessment, intervention and evaluation.
  • Delivering group work programmes to Children, Young People and their Parents, addressing a wide variety of issues that may affect their ability to achieve their potential.
  • Assessing adolescent and parental needs and to promote the young person’s health and wellbeing by providing appropriate activities and experiences; using accredited models.
  • Preparing written reports to contribute to the wider Childs Plan, and to present these details at multi-agency meetings; representing the organisation and supporting the family. Work closely and professionally with partner agencies to deliver services that offer the most appropriate and beneficial support to Children, Young People and their Families, contributing to more successful outcomes.
  • Working with and managing challenging behaviour and supporting young people and their families effectively
