Responsibilities

A BIT ABOUT THE ROLE

The Action for Children Gael Og Probation Service is primarily based at Rail House in Inverness, with regular work undertaken within Inverness, Dingwall and Alness criminal justice social work offices. The service provides a range of structured and tailored programmes to participants who are exclusively referred to the service by the local authority’s criminal justice social work teams. Participants referred to the service are under social work supervision and are on a form of community order such as Community Payback Order, Diversion from Prosecution, or Structured Deferred Sentence. The service also supports the social work teams with regular bail supervision check-ins as and when required.
As a Young Person’s Practitioner, you’ll support both male and female participants aged 16 and over with a primary focus on supporting adults, either on a one to one or small group basis. The service facilitates programmes focused on reducing offending behaviours, improving problem solving abilities and emotional regulation, with the aim of promoting a pro-social attitude and positive change. You’ll also compile and develop reports to a high standard, provide regular feedback to lead professionals, collate assessments and evaluations of the undertaken work in order to reach agreed participant outcomes.

Some key responsibilities for the Young Person’s Practitioner role are;

  • Delivering and reviewing support sessions, both in groups and one-to-one, that help participants build their skills and confidence. These sessions cover important areas such as relationships, decision-making, and managing behaviour, using a mix of guided conversations, practical activities, and evidence-based approaches.
  • Understanding each participants needs and helping to support their health and wellbeing through appropriate, meaningful activities and experiences. You’ll use recognised tools and models to make sure the support is effective and tailored to them.
  • Preparing written reports for case meetings and other professional discussions. You’ll also contribute to reports alongside the Case Manager to ensure each participant progress and needs are clearly understood across the team
