Description
BWC’s core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across BWC departments. Most positions perform work on-site at one of BWC’s seven offices across the state. BWC offers flex-time work schedules that allow an employee to start the day as early as 7:00am or as late as 8:30am. Flex-time schedules are based on operational need and require supervisor approval. What You’ll Be Doing: Conducting complex & comprehensive industrial hygiene (IH) surveys (e.g., assess air contaminants, noise, heat stress, ventilation, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)) at employer worksites; Preparing technical written reports detailing IH sampling results and actionable recommendations; Creating and delivering occupational safety & health training; Providing IH subject matter content & review for internal and external communications; Identifying potential safety and/or ergonomic risks and making referrals to safety consultants or ergonomists, as appropriate; Supporting Division of Safety & Hygiene outreach initiatives such as the Safety Intervention Grant, Ohio Safety Congress and Safety Council programs. To Qualify, You Must Clearly Demonstrate: Completion of undergraduate core program in environmental health, physical/natural science or engineering AND 12 mos. exp. in private sector or other governmental agency performing same or comparable duties of Industrial Safety Hygienist 3, 24473 AND valid driver's license. Or 12 mos. exp. as Industrial Safety Hygienist 3, 24473 AND valid driver's license. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Major Worker Characteristics: Knowledge of: employee training & development, safety practices, public relations, BWC policies & procedures*,industrial health/safety practices, rules & regulations, principles of safety management, chemistry toxicology & basic engineering principle (ventilation, machine guarding, etc.). Skill in: operation of typical office equipment such as computer, calculator, digital camera, printer, scanner & photocopier. Comprehensive skill in operation of industrial hygiene assessment equipment including, but not limited to: sound level meter, octave band analyzer, acoustical calibrator, noise dosimeter, multi-flow air sampling pumps, primary & secondary calibrators for air sampling pumps, direct-reading aerosol monitors, toxic/flammable gas monitors and associated calibration devices, heat/cold stress monitors, indoor air quality (IAQ) monitors, air velocity/air flow meters, moisture meters and infrared camera. Ability to: deal with many variables & determine specific action, read, copy & record figures accurately, use statistical analysis, complete routine forms, understand manuals & verbal instructions, technical in nature, prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports, use proper research methods in gathering data, prepare & deliver speeches before specialized audiences & general public, write &/or edit articles for publication, write &/or edit technical, scientific or advanced literary publications, gather, collate & classify information about data, people or things, handle sensitive inquiries from & contacts with officials & general public.
