The Hive Vision: ‘The Hive’ Youth Hub is best understood as the integration of health and social services in a youth-friendly environment. Our focus is on prevention and early intervention and the provision of resources to help youth manage their concerns and navigate pathways to specialized services they may require. An integrated service delivery model will enhance partnerships and leverage existing systems with agencies and service providers and ensure all youth needs are met with compassion, collaboration, cooperation, and sustainability.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Youth Coordinator (YC) will help to create a safe, supportive, empowering, and welcoming environment for youth and will play an integral role in the development, delivery and support of youth hub services, programming, service navigation and connections.
A critical role of the YC is to support the navigation of appropriate local health agencies and other support systems, such as life skill development, job preparedness, life transition, financial support, healthy relationships and mental well-being through a ‘stepped model of care’.
Under the direct supervision of The Hive Operations Lead, and working within program objectives and organizational goals, the Youth Coordinator will assist with a variety of Hive programming and service initiatives that help improve the lives of youth in our community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Desire to work with youth (ages 14-21) and their support networks
  • Completion of high school
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in social services environment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificates considered an asset
  • Proven organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Knowledge of person-centred care and principles of health equity
  • Exceptional interpersonal, relational and communication skills
  • Highly organized with careful attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals experiencing distress
  • Demonstrated capacity in de-escalation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to be available for evening or weekends if required

Responsibilities

Engagement and Service Navigation:

  • Greet and engage participants throughout their involvement at The Hive, including supporting advisory committees and groups
  • Build positive rapport and trusting relations with all visitors and Hive participants
  • Provide follow-up and navigation services to participants on behalf of Hive teams
  • Work in collaboration with other Hive staff and teams to facilitate and coordinate programming and seamless service delivery
  • Provide information over the phone and in person on community resources and services offered at The Hive and in the community at large

Program/Service Facilitation:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, structure and evaluation of The Hive programming, including the facilitation of group activities
  • Assist Operations Lead to provide proactive health education and youth friendly events
  • Assist with in-person workshops, training and other specific activities/events

Crisis-Intervention and De-Escalation:

  • Assist in supervising participants with support from other youth program staff
  • Evaluate immediate safety risks, de-escalate and diffuse conflict in an assertive, timely fashion
  • Act as a first responder (CPR/First aid)
  • Integrate trauma-informed/healing centred principles and strategies
  • Create and facilitate a calm, compassionate environment for those experiencing distress

Administrative Support:

  • Prepares and maintains records and program documentation
  • Participates by providing input in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, committees and in-services
