Description

Piikani Child & Family Services requires a Youth Worker for the Prevention Team. The Youth Worker position requires the facilitation of programs for groups, as well as training and support for youth and families. This position will empower youth by delivering Piikani teachings to support youth and instill pride and belonging through exposure to Piikani culture, language and values. The Youth Coordinator will serve as a positive role model to youth, providing mentorship direct and brief support to assist youth. The Youth Coordinator will invest their time to help youth in their journey and support their physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental well-being. The Youth Coordinator will have the opportunity to form supportive, long-lasting relationships with Piikani children/youth that facilitate the Blackfoot Culture, language and the Piikani way of life

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or equivalent (Human Services Diploma/ Certificate), other education, training and experience will be considered
  • Blackfoot language and culture knowledge is preferred
  • 2 years of experience working in the Human Services Field
  • Knowledge of resources in the Early Childhood and Parenting programs is desired
  • Successful Criminal Record check, and Child Intervention records clearance must accompany resume and cover letter
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Perform at high level of professionalism and commitment and follow relevant policy.
  • Expected to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License (Preferably class 4) to transport.
  • Must provide a Driver’s abstract.
  • Display kindness, empathy and compassion to youth and families
    Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
    Contract length: 12 months
    Pay: $29.00 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Perform Prevention staff duties according to PCFS policies and procedures, in a highly confidential and professional manner
  • Assist in empowering youth to achieve their life goals.
  • Develop youth programs geared to help youth reach their maximum potential through the promotion of healthy relationships, healthy living, self-esteem building, self-care, healing from grief & loss, and other issues facing youth today
  • Develop programs that will connect and strengthen Youth and Elders’ engagement
  • Collect and enter data to track participant and program success
  • Develop and provide 1:1 support and mentorship with strength-based approach for Piikani Youth
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to meet the evolving needs of the community
  • Implementation of Blackfoot culture into all programming, workshops and events
  • To develop after-school programs, in-school programs, and other programs geared to children and youth
  • Creation of cultural, recreational,land-based and activity-related programs and events to meet the needs of children still living at home
  • Develop youth engagement activities with other Blackfoot and Indigenous Nations youth
  • Contribute to a positive, healthy environment for Piikani youth
  • Participate and transport Piikani Youth to community events that provide connection for youth in the Piikani Community.
  • Must be able to prepare all aspects of a work plan, budget and monthly reports.

Team Leadership and Supervision:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the Youth Team, including training, support and performance evaluation.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork, collaboration and cultural safety.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination among team members, stakeholders, and community partners.

Community Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with Nation members, organizations, and stakeholders to understand their needs, concerns and aspirations.
  • Advocate for community needs and interests, representing Piikani Child and Family Services in various forums and meetings.
  • Collaborate with Knowledge Keepers and elders to ensure cultural appropriateness and respect in all Prevention Youth Activities and Events.
  • Coordinate, schedule and attend case conferences and appointments with community providers involved with the youth. Maintain regular contact with the youth’s network of service providers
