Description

The After School Counselor is responsible for leading and supervising a group of school aged youth with and without disabilities in youth recreation activities and encourage character development, skill advancement, and safety.
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 3pm-6pm Wednesday 1pm – 6pm Scheduled no school days.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

Trainings to be completed within 3 months of hire
· Iowa Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse
· Universal Precautions
· Adult, Child, Infant CPR/AED
· Iowa/Federal Background Check
· Physical
· Ongoing professional development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 16 years or age and completed 2 years of High School
  2. Ability to connect with school age children of diverse backgrounds.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to interact and play with children.
  5. Work effectively as a team, under stress and under specific instructions.
    Job Type: Part-time
    Pay: $10.00 - $12.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 5 – 10 per week

Responsibilities

  2. Supervise and lead children with and without disabilities in the After School program and maintain a fun, energetic, and positive environment.
  3. Ensure safe practices by participants at all times, including sign in and sign out procedures.
  4. Maintain the cleanliness and safety of equipment and program area.
  5. Manage and handle participant disputes using approved behavior management techniques.
  6. Communicate with volunteers, staff, participants, and parents.
  7. Attend regular staff meetings and trainings as required.
