You are looking for part-time work that makes a positive impact on the lives of youth You are dedicated and enthusiastic about making a difference in the community You are reliable and the team and youth can count on you You are excited by the opportunity to work with a diverse group of colleagues and youth in a fun and safe after-school environment You have or desire to gain experience and skills working with youth in a non-profit You are deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, justice, and accessibility Requirements Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions: Supervision & Safety: Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for youth participants Facilitate engaging activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development for a group of 20 members Provide mentorship and guidance to members, helping them navigate challenges and achieve their goals Implement educational programs that align with best practices in childhood development Supervise and manage groups of children in various settings, ensuring a safe and supportive environment Collaborate with parents, teachers, and community organizations to enhance the overall development of youth Utilize skills in sports coaching, theater, or other extracurricular activities to enrich the program offerings Maintain accurate records of members' progress and participation in activities Respond to emergencies with appropriate first aid measures when necessary Classroom Management and Teaching Establish classroom rules and behavior Provide children with basic needs and ensure supervision Adapt teaching methods to children's interests and learning styles Manage classroom activities, lessons, play, breaks, and meals Track children's progress and communicate effectively with parents and teachers Maintain a clean and organized classroom Relationships Mentoring: Serve as a positive role model and mentor to young participants, fostering their self-esteem and personal development Maintaining a Positive Environment: Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and respected Team Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to ensure program goals are met and share best practices Qualifications & Experience: Experience working with students in educational or recreational settings is preferred Background in after-school programs, sports coaching, theater, or special education is highly desirable Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective classroom management techniques Ability to educate and inspire youth through various activities while fostering a positive learning environment Certification in First Aid is preferred; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held Effective communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children and their families A commitment to promoting inclusivity and understanding diverse backgrounds among youth Department of Justice and FBI Background check clearance 18 yrs. of age NCLB (No Child Left Behind) certification required/ 48 Transferable Units Multi-conversational language skills are a plus (Spanish, Vietnamese) Experience or coursework in Childhood Development, or related fields, will be given preference Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment A safety-first mindset High emotional intelligence and integrity Ability to connect in an authentic way with a diverse group of youth Collaborative nature to work well in teams and support member conflict resolution Extremely patient and able to work under pressure or in emotionally volatile situations Genuine belief in the mission of BGCSV and the responsibility that comes with serving youth and the community Competencies: Dependability: Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Accountable; Keeps commitments; Completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
