Description Reports to: Unit or Site Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Operations Position Summary The Youth Development Professional (YDP) is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising activities in designated program areas, ensuring a safe and positive environment for youth. The YDP fosters engagement, mentorship, and personal development while upholding BGCSV's mission to provide equitable access to academic, social, and career opportunities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Youth Engagement & Supervision Lead structured activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development for up to 20 youth members. Maintain a safe and inclusive program environment. Provide guidance and serve as a role model for youth. Program Development & Implementation Plan and facilitate education, arts, recreation, and leadership development programs. Adapt lessons and activities to meet the diverse needs of participants. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Classroom & Behavior Management Establish and enforce clear expectations for behavior and participation. Address conflicts constructively and support positive youth interactions. Ensure youth safety and adherence to policies and procedures. Collaboration & Communication Work with staff, parents, and community partners to support youth development. Participate in team meetings and contribute to program improvements. Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and incidents. Requirements Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or GED required. NCLB certification/48 transferable college units preferred. Experience working with youth in educational or recreational settings preferred. Background in childhood development, after-school programs, or coaching is a plus. Strong classroom management and behavior guidance skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it within 30 days of hire) is preferred. DOJ/FBI background check clearance is required. A negative TB test is required. Spanish or Vietnamese language skills are a plus. Competencies & Skills Dependability: Punctual, accountable, and follows through on commitments. Work Environment & Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 25 lbs.). Occasional outdoor work and exposure to varying weather conditions. Moderate to loud noise levels in an active youth program setting. Use of walkie-talkies for communication.
