The Providence After School Alliance’s (PASA) mission is to help close persistent opportunity gaps by expanding and improving quality after school, summer and other out-of-school time (OST) learning opportunities for all the youth of Providence. Job Description
Youth Engagement Specialists are the front-line youth workers of the AfterZone. In collaboration with volunteers, program providers, school officials and other AfterZone Staff, Youth Engagement Specialists help ensure that the AfterZone is a safe and fun place for youth to be after school. Youth Engagement Specialists are responsible for leading high-quality programming, mentoring youth, and role-modeling positive interactions with the community-at-large.
Youth Engagement Specialists report directly to the respective AfterZone Site Coordinator. Under the direction of the Site Coordinator, responsibilities of Youth Engagement Specialist include:
Responsibilities

Youth Development and Program Facilitation

  • Serve as a positive role model for youth
  • Work with a team of AfterZone staff to ensure that youth are engaged in positive activities
  • Plan and lead activities to increase social and academic experiences for youth
  • Provide youth with homework and academic support as needed
  • Travel with groups of youth that participate in citywide intramural leagues

Logistical Support

  • Set up and distribute snack
  • Manage daily attendance and data input
  • Direct flow of student traffic
  • Help organize transportation dismissal
  • Serve as bus monitor
  • Assist with all aspects of after school program set-up and clean-up
  • Assist with program recruitment and special events
  • Register students for program and update youth information on the program’s online database

Job Expectations

In addition to job expectations laid out by your employer/supervisor and in relevant employee handbooks, it is expected that all Youth Engagement Specialists:

  • Attend weekly planning sessions and monthly professional development
  • Participation in recurring observations and debriefings based on state-wide after school program standards
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to implement Club AfterZone lessons

Qualifications

  • Desire to work with middle school youth in a positive youth development atmosphere
  • Creativity, patience, a good work ethic, and a sense of humor
  • Previous work history with at least two years of experience working with youth
  • High school diploma or GED

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven experience in youth development and community-based programs
  • International language skills – Portuguese, Spanish, Creole, Hmong, Khmer, Arabic etc
  • Knowledge of Providence and the AfterZone communities

Remuneration
Hourly wage for the position is $17.00 per hour, YES workers will work up to 20 hours per week.
