About the Position: The Youth Facilitator works as part of Closer to Home Family Resource Network (FRN) Viewpoints Spoke with a focus on building skills for children and youth aged 7-17 in Calgary and surrounding areas. Utilizing the principles of the Teaching-Family Model, the Youth Facilitator focuses on supporting youth to learn social emotional skills that increase executive functioning and provide opportunity to strengthen their relationships with parents, other family members, other significant adults, peers and their culture. Responsibilities: Create engaging, trauma informed program plans that will increase protective factors, resiliency, social emotional development, and self-esteem in vulnerable youth Facilitate programs in the community, either alone or in collaboration with other professionals Ensure thorough and timely documentation of tools, program plans, progress notes and program participant information Program recruitment Collaborate with community partners and participating in meetings Support other FRN staff with events or projects happening at the FRN, as well as participating in FRN related programs, such as supporting with the Adopt A Family campaign, Summer in the City, the FRN open house and more Work a flexible work week including some evenings or weekends to facilitate programs or attend events. To assess and support the emotional needs of youth and their families Provide support to the families in their homes and a variety of other settings with the goal of helping them to learn necessary skills, such as problem solving, child development, parenting skills, budgeting, conflict management and connecting to their culture Participate in developing relevant family goals and implementing, evaluating and re-designing goal plans in cooperation with the family Promote self-esteem and self-reliance within family members Provide information, articles, books and other culturally sensitive materials needed to assist families in learning more about parenting, child development and other applicable skills or areas of information Assist families in successfully meeting their goals Maintain and adhere to all health and safety requirements and report all hazards and injuries to the immediate supervisor. Qualifications: Degree or Diploma in Social Services and/or 1-2 years of youth-based program facilitation experience Ability to develop strong working relationships with professionals, program participants, families and community members Strong interpersonal and communication skills Experience working with youth and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds Must maintain awareness of the cultural/spiritual needs of the participants being served, and to incorporate the identified needs into the planning for youth and families Must obtain and maintain a “clear” Police Clearance Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search as well as a CFS Intervention Record Check First Aid Level C from an Alberta OHS approved agency Eager to learn and implement the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model Willing to work in a flexible work week, including evenings and weekends when needed This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Candidates must show proof of a class 5 Alberta driver’s license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year driver’s abstract. Candidates must also agree to maintain a 2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle and consent to the possibility of an annual driver’s abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guideline and CTH policy.
