Description

Job Summary: Works as part of a collaborative team to support children, youth and families to establish and achieve realistic goals. Works with children, youth and families referred by both the Ministry of Children and Family Development and the community. Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure delivery of programs and services at Saanich Neighbourhood Place. Provides group and individual support as part of the Best Babies Pre and Postnatal Program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Family Support:

  • Work with children, youth and families to identify strengths, determine needs, identify required resources, support linkages, assist with service navigation and referrals.
  • Communicate and case manage with parents/caregivers, MCFD school counselors, other youth workers, youth clinic workers, mental health counselors and other professionals/ agencies in the community.
  • Facilitate family communication meetings; provide advocacy; provide life skills training; accompany youth and families to appointments; provide referrals to other community programs and services.

Program Coordination:

  • Work with other staff to plan, implement and facilitate programs for children, youth and parents.
  • Facilitate the Best Babies Program collaboratively with the Best Babies Team.
  • Facilitate Outreach Drop-In programs.
  • Facilitate parent education and children and youth programs.
  • Ensure that accurate program and youth and family files are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority. Ensures that all pertinent documentation is complete.
  • Collaborate with other staff regarding the day-to-day operations and special events as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post Secondary degree in human services field and 2 years’ experience working with children and families
  • Experience in conflict resolution, child protection, mediation and negotiation is an asset
  • Proven group facilitation and individual support experience.
  • Training in programs like Nobody’s Perfect, Connect Parenting is an asset
  • Doula or birth preparation training and experience working with pregnant and early parenting individuals is an asset.

JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other staff, community partners and community participants
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communications skills
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Clear criminal records check
  • Class 5 driver’s license and use of a reliable vehicle
