QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in leading and inspiring a team
  • Experience of working with young people and delivering youth programmes.
  • Experience in evaluating youth programmes and an understanding of the factors which contribute towards a successful intervention.
  • An understanding of the issues facing young people within their community.
  • An understanding of the principles of risk assessment.
  • A basic level of computer literacy.
  • An understanding of equality and diversity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding good practice.
  • First Aid Certified or willingness to train
  • MIDAS or willingness to train
  • Youth work qualification
Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

This role will work as part of the YMCA Andover team, planning and delivering a weekly youth group in conjunction with the Community Lead Practitioner. This youth club is for young people ages 10–14 year olds. The postholder will programme activities which will be predominantly physical, co-ordinate a youth worker and volunteers, and lead the youth group.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • At all times work within the YMCA Way
  • Plan, initiate, design and deliver engaging, high quality and relevant activities for young people. Actively engage young people and partners in the design of content.
  • Recruit, train and support volunteers to aid in the delivery of the programme and organise cover when needed.
  • Collect attendance and monitoring data, including regular informal and quarterly formal feedback sessions with young people. Produce evaluation reports for the programme’s funder, supported by the Community Manager.
  • Find opportunities to grow the programme, attracting new young people through marketing and liaison with schools and local groups, and through social media.
  • Work in a trauma-informed way when young people’s behaviour is challenging and signposting to other services where necessary.
  • Provide risk assessments for all activities and help create procedures to support the smooth and safe running of the group.
  • Produce a monthly summary of any accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Promote a culture of safeguarding, complying with YMCA’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policies at all times, taking any concerns regarding young people’s health or wellbeing to your line manager or senior management.
  • Positively engage with the wider YMCA team, customers, and all visitors.
  • Act in the interests of your own safety and the safety of others at all times
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Anything else reasonably requested by the management of the charity.
