POSITION SUMMARY:

A Wraparound Youth Peer Partner is an individual who has life experience navigating the mental health, foster care, school and/or legal systems. By using their own unique, life-altering experiences, they guide and support youth who are currently engaged in these systems. They serve as an advocate for the youth in the Wraparound Program to ensure that youth have a voice in their treatment planning and support to achieve their goals. A youth peer partner fills a gap by providing support from the perspective of someone who has first-hand experience, something that a professional cannot learn from training or education. This position promotes socialization, recovery, self-sufficiency, self-advocacy, development of natural supports and maintenance of skills learned in other support services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Must be at least 18 years old and under 30 years old.
    Licensure/Certification: Must have Wraparound Youth Peer Partner training or the ability to obtain such training within 90 days of hire. Meet all other requirements of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) for peer delivered services. Valid Oregon Driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past three years. Must pass all criminal history check requirements as required by ORS 443.004. Must not be listed on the Medicaid Provider exclusion list. Have or obtain CPR/BLS certification.


    • Experience: Preference may be given to individual who have experience working as a Peer Support Specialist and/or who have completed the Peer Support Specialist training. Preference is given to individuals who have previous or current involvement as a behavioral health client, and/or who have lived experience with psychiatric disabilities and/or the legal system.

    • Job Knowledge: Must have knowledge of the principles of family systems and care coordination. Knowledge of best practices and treatment modalities. Familiarity with treatment and service terminology and treatment planning.
    • Skills: Have an ability to understand and effectively apply the concepts and practices of trauma-informed philosophy. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, with the public, other agencies, community groups, and colleagues. Demonstrate flexibility. Must be computer literate.
    • Expected Hours of Work: Hours of typical operation are M-F, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, as needed.
    • Personal Protective Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to perform the job safely, as required.
    • Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not directly supervise staff.
    • Travel: Travel (using a company vehicle) occasionally required for this position.
    • Meet one on one with youth to identify needs. Promote brain-storming and self-advocacy. Assist youth in gaining problem solving skills. Provide a safe and welcoming environment in which the youth can comfortably engage.
    • Provide and advocate for recovery-based services. Assist the youth in obtaining services that fit their needs.
    • Be able to share lived experience with the youth which may include experiences with mental health services, juvenile justice systems, foster care, Oregon Youth Authority, addiction and recovery, school attendance and LGBTQ+ environments.
    • Assist the youth in identifying and participating in other support services in the community. Look for additional resources, including natural supports, that may be beneficial to the youth. Explore opportunities that may be available such as accelerated diploma or GED completion if applicable.
    • Provide home-based and school-based, and community-based services, as necessary.
    • Support the youth in gaining life and occupational skills. Support the youth through their involvement with their current systems of care.
    • Maintain professional behavior and appropriately represent Outback Strong’s mission and philosophy.
    • Complete all necessary documentation written in a billable and timely manner consistent with standards and regulations.
    • Utilizes agency clinical software system to prepare current client records of treatment and reports as necessary and required.
    • Participates in all team and agency meetings as scheduled.
    • Participate in Wraparound Child & Family Team meetings.
