Description The Carol Stream Public Library is looking for a reliable and dedicated part-time team member with the availability to work a rotation of every 3rd weekend (Saturdays 9-5pm and Sundays 1-5pm) and at least one evening shift per week. Part-time employees receive 3 paid holidays, 2 additional floating holidays, and accrue paid leave. Position Summary: Provide services and programs for the knowledge and enjoyment of the Library’s customers Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services by assisting customers in the location and use of Library materials and equipment • Develop, plan and conduct Library and outreach programs • Develop, maintain, and promote a collection of materials • Assist Library customers with the use of Library equipment and software applications by explaining and demonstrating their operation • Serves as Team Leader or supports Team Leader when needed which includes handling patron concerns, dealing with emergencies and assisting with the opening or closing of the facility • Contribute to maintenance of social media, webpage, or Intranet for Department • Work with and promote services and/or develop partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and special interest groups • Develop material and displays for the services and collections of the Youth Services Department • If necessary train new employees in their duties as directed by Department Manager • Performs other duties as assigned Requirements Education: • MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited school required Experience: • One to three years working with children or teens in an educational setting required • One-year Librarian experience preferred • One-year customer service experience preferred
Responsibilities
Provide reference and reader's advisory services while developing and conducting programs for youth customers. Manage collections, promote library services through community partnerships, and support facility operations as a team leader.
