YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER (SELF-EMPLOYED)

Location: Addington Road South Croydon, CR28LF
Rate: £10.50 per hour
Contract: Self-employed, interim arrangement until permanent
Hours: Flexible – includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays

REQUIREMENTS

• Must hold Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) or an accepted equivalent, or be willing to work towards a required qualification
• Experience working with children and young people, ideally in a residential care setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
• Basic IT literacy for record keeping (training in systems will be provided).
• Enhanced DBS (Children) – must be on the Update Service or obtained before starting.
• Aged at least four years older than the oldest resident in the home (per Ofsted regulations).
• Full UK driving licence desirable.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

As a Youth Support Worker, you will work as part of a small, dedicated team to ensure children in our care receive high-quality support. This is a self-employed interim arrangement while the home completes its Ofsted registration and appoints permanent staff. You will be expected to work in line with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support and supervise children and young people in the home, promoting their safety, well-being, and personal development.
• Contribute to and follow individual care plans and risk assessments.
• Maintain a safe, structured environment with clear routines and boundaries.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, social workers, health professionals, and education providers.
• Keep accurate, up-to-date records of incidents, progress, and daily reports.
• Follow safeguarding policies at all times and report concerns promptly.
• Participate in household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry to model independence skills.
