As a Youth Worker with headspace Narre Warren & Pakenham, you'll play an important role in helping young people feel welcomed, heard and connected to the support they need. Our service provides intake, brief intervention, counselling, youth health, school-based support and allied health services for young people and their support networks. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll support young people to navigate services, access timely care and build connections that promote positive wellbeing outcomes. Your role, your impact As a Youth Worker, you’ll help create a safe, inclusive and youth-friendly experience for young people accessing headspace services. You’ll be part of the first step in care for many young people – helping them feel listened to, understood and connected to the right support. You will: Support young people to access care by completing phone screens, in-person appointments, intake conversations and service navigation Provide brief, strengths-based support using approaches such as HEADSS assessments, single session work, brief interventions and psychoeducation Help reduce wait times by supporting young people while they wait to access clinical practitioners, allied health providers or intake and brief intervention clinicians Build connection and engagement with young people, families, friends and stakeholders in a professional, timely and culturally responsive way Coordinate practical supports and referrals by linking young people with headspace National services, consortium agencies, community supports and other relevant services Contribute to group programs and resources by supporting evidence-informed psycho-social groups and helping identify useful resources across the service Maintain accurate client records through Each’s Client Management System (Episoft) and ensure service data is recorded in hAPI Support inclusive community engagement by contributing to awareness activities for young people from diverse communities, including CALD, Indigenous, LGBTIQA+, young men, and young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness Who we’re looking for We’re looking for someone who brings strong communication skills, a calm and respectful approach, and a genuine commitment to supporting young people in ways that centre their strengths, choices and lived experience. You bring: Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work, or an equivalent qualification Experience working with adolescents and young adults with mild to moderate mental health presentations, and a sound understanding of adolescent development and youth mental health Experience completing mental health assessments, including mental state examination and risk assessment Confidence working with young people, families and friends from diverse backgrounds and communities Ability to work independently and contribute positively within a multidisciplinary team What will make you stand out You’ll be well placed for this role if you also bring: Experience working in a headspace, youth mental health or community-based setting Experience using brief intervention, single-session or recovery-oriented approaches Familiarity with HEADSS assessments, hAPI, Episoft or similar client management systems Experience supporting young people from diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, LGBTIQA+ young people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, refugees, people with disability and neurodivergent young people Understanding of local services, referral pathways and supports available to young people and families What’s in it for you Each is the lead agency for headspace.
