JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Youth Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting children and young adults, particularly those with disabilities. This role involves working closely with youth to foster their development, provide guidance, and create a safe and engaging environment. The Youth Worker will play a crucial role in empowering individuals to reach their full potential through various activities and support strategies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with children or young adults in educational or recreational settings is preferred.
  • Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Strong teaching skills to effectively engage youth in learning activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with youth, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of young people.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support to clients, offering counselling, mental health, and advocacy services as needed.
  • Work directly with youth and families to support reconciliation and prevent homelessness through mediation, education, and ongoing support.
  • Assist youth in securing and maintaining housing by attending viewings, coordinating with landlords, and working collaboratively with community partners.
  • Help youth access employment and educational opportunities, offering guidance and referrals as appropriate.
  • Support housed youth in developing and maintaining stability by building individualized wraparound care plans focusing on life skills such as budgeting, independent living, communication, and landlord/tenant rights. Help create food security plans through care packages and food bank connections.
  • Develop individualized care plans tailored to each client’s unique needs. Plans may include harm reduction supports, safety planning, access to legal services, referrals to external agencies, and assistance with obtaining identification and other vital documents.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation through internal Youth Haven reporting systems and external databases such as HIFIS, ensuring clients remain eligible for support through Coordinated Access and the By-Name List.
  • Actively participate in ongoing training, contribute to program development through feedback, and stay informed of best practices and current research.
  • Represent Youth Haven by attending relevant local committees and meetings, advocating for youth and building strong community partnerships.
  • Participate in frontline outreach with the Outreach Van, partnering with the Barrie Outreach team, providing direct support and resources to youth in the community
