The Youth Hub supports young people who are at risk of, or currently involved in, gang and gun-related activities. Through prevention and intervention strategies, the program addresses the root causes of youth violence, aiming to empower youth while enhancing community safety.
This role requires a dynamic individual with a deep commitment to youth advocacy, strong boundaries, and the ability to navigate high-pressure, emotionally complex situations. The Youth Hub is a fast-paced environment, requiring a balance of strategic coordination and hands-on frontline support.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develop and implement evidence-based youth gang prevention and intervention strategies, including mentoring, life skills development, recreational activities, and mental health support.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings and events to engage youth and community members in discussions about youth gang prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Ensure that all program activities and interactions are culturally responsive and inclusive, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of participants.
  • Supervise program volunteers when needed.
  • Facilitate support groups and other therapeutic activities.
  • Work collaboratively with community agencies and organizations using a coordinated practice model.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to address immediate concerns involving youth participants.
  • Collect and maintain client and program data as directed by the Coordinator or Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, criminology, counselling, or a related field.
  • Experience in youth and family services.
  • Minimum of 2 years of community-based experience utilizing a collaborative approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of community resources and networks, particularly services in New Westminster.
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification; crisis intervention and suicide prevention training are an asset.
  • Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle required; Class 4 license or willingness to obtain is an asset.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record clearance for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Must be available for flexible hours, including regular evenings.
