OCounty Corp is a private, non-profit affordable housing provider for the residents of the Greater Miami Valley region. Our mission is to provide affordable housing and economic opportunities. While we are a relatively small organization, we are mighty in the positive impact we have on the clients and communities we serve. We co-locate with the Montgomery County Land Bank and the Homeownership Center of Greater Dayton.
In addition to providing housing, home repair, new construction, and rehab services to our clients, we also manage a U.S. Department of Labor Grant called YouthBuild. YouthBuild is a college and career preparation program that focuses on opportunity youth ages 16 - 22. Utilizing classroom and hands-on experience, eligible youth are provided opportunities to enter career pathways such as construction, manufacturing, and healthcare.
We are looking for a Construction Instructor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

· Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
· Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks.

· Minimum 10 years of experience in residential construction, including experience with training general laborers and/or apprentices in residential construction.
· Minimum - Journeyman or Master level skill craft certification.
· Preferred - 5 Years of Entrepreneurial Experience such as owning your own company.
· Passion for working with, and teaching, youth of various social, educational, and economic backgrounds.
· Willingness to go “above and beyond” to support participants in achieving academic and career goals.
· Certified as a NCCER Instructor- Master Instructor (Preferred) or ability to gain this certification.
· Certified as an OSHA-10 Trainer (Preferred) or ability to gain this certification.
· Certified as a Career Tech Teacher through the Ohio Department of Education (Preferred) or ability to gain this certification.
· Valid Driver’s License Required
· Commitment to continued personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities

· Using approved curricula, teaches workplace safety resulting in the awarding of the OSHA – 10 Basic Safety certification.
· Responsible for implementation of the NCCER Core: Introduction to the Construction Trades curriculum resulting in students earning the NCCER Core Industry Credential.
· Responsible for implementation of a Residential Facilities Maintenance Technician (RFMT) Certification using NCCER curricula resulting in students earning the RFMT Credential.
· Responsible for implementation of the approved Operating Plan as registered with the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council so that students earn a Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion.
· Coordinates with academic partners to identify participants who require learning accommodations. Is required to appropriately incorporate those accommodations into all instructional activities and testing with regards to the individual’s dignity, respect, and privacy
· Conducts weekly toolbox safety talks designed to improve participant’s abilities to recognize and avoid workplace hazards. Is also responsible for implementation of worksite safety plan and adhering to all procedures for reporting accident/injuries.
· Develops and coordinates the construction plan to align with construction timelines including ordering necessary materials, keeping tools in good repair, and passing all necessary inspections. Ensures participants are actively engaged in functional and appropriate construction / construction related activities.
· Provides support and guidance to participants as they develop construction craft skills with an emphasis on employability / soft skills such as teamwork, communication, accountability, and resiliency.
· Incorporate critical thinking and functional academics by creating learning opportunities to address technical construction problems that naturally arise on construction sites (aka problem-based learning).
· Ensure proactive, open, and effective communication with other members of the YouthBuild team especially in regard to issues and concerns related to participant performance and well-being.
· Implement attendance policies and procedures at the site.
· Mentor, coach, and advise participants in relation to the development of aspirational capital / goal setting. Use personal experiences to guide and positively influence pursuit of postsecondary options and opportunities related to construction or other vocations in which you may have personal experience. This includes nurturing leadership development, self-discipline, and optimism.
· Help build relationships and contacts with construction and/or construction related partners regarding potential employment or other ways to increase the learning experiences of participants.
· Provide required performance reports, participate in relevant meetings, workshops and/or committees.
