Description Zingerman’s Bakehouse is hiring a Maintenance Technician I! The Maintenance Technician will work directly with the Maintenance Manager. Candidates will be responsible for diagnoses, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment maintenance in the areas of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and general facilities operations including grounds and upkeep. This isn’t a typical maintenance job—it’s a chance to keep a beloved, high-volume artisan bakery alive and humming. Zingerman's Bakehouse has an exciting training strategy with clearly defined expectations and pay increases along the way. What are the requirements and skills needed for this job? Availability: 32 Hours a week - 4 days a week 8 hours a day Weekend and Holiday availability is required. We close only on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Full availability in November and December (we don't take any extra time off during these months) Availability for on-call maintenance emergencies and infrequent on-call help on days off Performance Expectations - Essential Functions: A focus on safety during all job duties Work with the Maintenance Manager on essential operational support tasks Perform, under the direction of the manager, daily, weekly, and monthly priorities for equipment and facility preventative maintenance with the goal to minimize downtime. Maintain an organized and properly stocked maintenance shop to ensure the highest levels of efficiency, productivity, and cost savings Performs and assists in maintenance repairs as appropriate. Repair common issues of unique Bakehouse equipment Conducts all maintenance and repair work in accordance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and all other safety standards directly as is covered in the Maintenance Technician training phase Properly updates a computer based system to track preventive maintenance programs and to schedule preventive maintenance services Develops and maintains strong relationships with external staff including Bakehouse Managers and staff while providing great service to internal customers Effectively and promptly communicates equipment and facility repair status with department managers as necessary Schedule Flexibility Requirements: Valid Michigan Driver's with a good driving record A student mindset, ready to learn Strong communication skills The ability to deal successfully with multiple tasks and high stress situations. Strong problem solving skills and deductive reasoning Certificate or willingness to obtain certificate for operation of a PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) Preferred: Has experience in commercial bakery equipment, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and HVAC A safety first mindset (1) year in residential or commercial maintenance or equivalent experience Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly during 9 hour shift Ability to stand for 9 hour shift Ability to climb a 12 ft ladder Ability to shovel snow for up to 2 hours at a time Success Patterns and Desired Characteristics: Takes pride in work accuracy and organization Is responsible and dependable Can learn quickly and work in a fast paced environment Enjoys giving great service Is a real team player Strong communication skills Thrives in a production-oriented environment. Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.
