Description Full or Part-Time available. Shifts are up to 8 hours and typically between 7:00am & 8:00pm Monday through Friday. Full time availability and some weekend availability desired in November-December. $15.50-16.50/HOUR (depending on experience) (With increases after completing basic orientation and job specific training passports) Do you love chocolate and candy in all its forms? Looking for a place where you can be yourself and do good work on a dynamic and diverse team? Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory needs a Candy Maker to join our team! Essential Functions: Make candy from start to finish including: Scale recipes: measuring ingredients for candy making accurately and quickly Execute all candy making tasks following our recipes exactly. Package and label candy for retail and wholesale customers Clean as you go and work in a safe manner following all food safety practices. Clean work tables and equipment, mop floors, and take out trash as needed. Wash dishes as needed. Document production & food safety tasks as needed. Be willing to learn to: Frame candy bars: layering candy components in a frame Cook sugar syrups: nougat, brittle, caramel, fondant, fudge Handle hot sugar with lightly gloved hands Roast nuts in nut roaster Whip aerations (egg whites and adding cooked sugar) Temper chocolate and dip candy bars on an enrobing machine Decorate molds for chocolate bonbons Make and pipe fillings for chocolate bonbons Use wrapping, cutting and all other equipment used for the candy making process The Success Patterns for this position are: Experience working in a high-volume commercial kitchen Experience or education in Chocolate & Confections or Baking & Pastry preferred. You will be comfortable working in a fast paced, detail oriented kitchen. Have the ability to take direction well and execute a task both independently and as part of a team. Basic math skills: adding/substracting/multiplying/dividing, converting pounds and ounces, etc Able to do intricate work with your hands Able to read and follow SOPs, recipes and directions Able to work in a small space Able to safely carry hot sugar syrup in hot pots (move from range to mixer area safely) Able and comfortable handling hot sugar with lightly gloved hands Able to lift, bend, stand and walk for duration of shift Able to lift 50 pounds and relocate it, with or without assistance. Be on time, every time for scheduled shifts Read & respond to email in a timely manner. Familiarity with or willingness to learn basic software applications. (Email, Google Drive, production management/traceability software).
