What you'll bring to the team Job Scope: To actively engage with guests in zoo areas ensuring their safety whilst delivering the best possible guest interactions; providing informal education in line with BIAZA and zoo licensing standards. Additionally maintain high standards across guest facing zoo areas and at times, assist the wider zoo team with other tasks. Job Purpose: Ensure guests are engaged and enjoying their overall visit and educational offerings in zoo areas Perform educational talks and host interactive activities to engage and educate guests Keep our zoo areas clean and tidy Monitor zoo areas to ensure both guest and animal welfare Key Accountabilities: Deliver the highest standards of customer service and maintain impeccable presentation of zoo areas Ensure zoo areas are safe and engaging for guests and animals Deliver educational talks to guests using portable PA systems Deliver interactive educational activities for guests To promote good animal welfare and conservation science Monitor and manage guest behaviour around priority areas including SEALIFE To monitor for and report any potential animal welfare concerns to the keeping teams To support the zoo education team with formal workshop delivery when required To support the wider zoo team with any additional tasks when required Qualifications & Experience Whilst we do not require any formal qualifications or experience for this role, the following would be desirable: A passion for wildlife, exotic animals and conservation Genuine enjoyment of educating the public Confidence in public speaking, especially with large crowds A people person who is happy to engage with guests Effective communication skills Strong initiative and independence A strong ethic of collaboration and teamwork Additional Considerations: All Merlin employees are expected to adhere to all company policies and procedures as outlined in online onboarding and training curriculums.
