GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

• How to Apply

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Explores, reviews, and familiarizes patients’ general interest, skills, aptitudes, moods, reactions, physical condition, physical limitations, and desire to participate in order to become knowledgeable of the patient’s condition and treatment goals using patient records, provider consults, treatment goals using patient records, provider consults, treatment team discussions, and patient interviews. Conducts recreational activities to meet the needs and interest of the patients utilizing available equipment, supplies, and resources. Observes the patient’s behavior, recreations, and participation in order to gather facts and information relating to the patient’s response to recreational activities. Evaluates effect of treatment, patient’s, productivity, ability, progress, and attention span in order to determine if desired goals are being met using information gathered from patient observations and knowledge of the treatment plan.
Modifies, alters, and/or adapts treatment procedures/approaches used in order to meet individual patient needs and to enable patient to overcome handicaps using a knowledge of physical and mental illnesses with knowledge of the treatment plan and procedures. Provides information to the treatment team in order to keep the team inform of the patient’s treatment progress utilizing progress noted, team discussions, and discharge summaries. Complies report data on direct and indirect patient activities and volunteer activities in order to provide information for management reports using established and clerical procedures and worksheet. Writes patient progress notes in order to provide medical record with documentation of the patients’ treatment using established procedures, knowledge of the patients’ condition, visual observations, and written communication skills. Develops progressive types of treatment for each patient in order to meet the specific needs of the patient and to meet the objective of treatment goals using information obtained through interview, observation, and trial activity.
1. Carry out recurring group activities, such as movement activities.
2. Demonstrate bingo, chess or other table game techniques and rules.
3. Assist I preparation of publicity materials for special activities, such as posters, flyers, and other approved methods of the AV ARCS.
4. Canvas the participant community for talent and donations of equipment, supplies for activities such as holidays and other events.
5. Assist with outings, such as concerts, shopping, day/night field trips.
6. Trains volunteers, students, patients, and patient families in recreational activities, patient contracts, equipment use, and facility maintenance in order to enable volunteers, students, patients, and family members to participate in the treatment process.
7. Monitors supplies and materials necessary to provide therapeutic activities including maintaining stock and coordinating with administrative personnel for acquisition.
8. Interacts with all visitors, patients, and personnel in a sensitive manner that reflects the core values of the medical center.
9. Education Support Service Line to ensure that GEC Nursing staff meet the annual mandatory training requirements.1
10. Performs other related duties.
