Description
The Department of Psychiatry in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The position will report to the Principal Investigator with the primary purpose of coordinating youth engagement and co-design activities for the Pan-Canadian Initiative Linking Genomic, Environments, and Mental Health Data in Children and Youth (Pan-GEM). The Pan-GEM project aims to examine genetic and environmental risk and protective factors associated with youth mental health concerns.
The Research Coordinator will work to develop a co-design framework for the project, establish and manage youth advisory councils, and conduct co-design workshops to develop recruitment and knowledge translation materials for mental health and genetics research. The Research Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator, the local and national Pan-GEM team, as well as youth with lived experience of mental health concerns.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

• Development of project framework and objectives
• Management of project timelines and deliverables
• Recruitment and support of youth research and co-design partners
• Provide support to other members of the team, as needed
• Leading co-design activities
• Coordinating meeting with local and national team members
• Managing/compiling data and generating reports and relevant outputs (e.g., knowledge translation materials)
• Preparing and amending research ethics board applications
• Supporting a health workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable University of Calgary policies, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
• Minimum two (2) years experience with research studies working with youth, families or vulnerable populations
• A working knowledge of genetics and mental health concerns is required
• Detail oriented, well organized, with the ability to track project deliverables and meet deadlines
• Require the ability to work effectively in a variety of setting with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Qualitative research methods
• Literature review and knowledge synthesis
• Knowledge translation
• Co-design research methods
• Art-based approaches (ideally)
• Social media engagement
• Study recruitment and screening
• Working with diverse youth
• Planning and directing research and administrative activities within a team environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to explain complex issues in plain language
