• You have membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

LEGAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

You have proven knowledge and expertise in:

• the Criminal Code of Canada, Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, criminal law procedures, rules of evidence and case law
• the litigation and prosecution of Drugs and Driving cases
• working on major/lengthy cases involving forensic/scientific evidence, voluminous amounts of disclosure, and complex legal and factual issues
• providing legal advice and training on legal issues to the police and Crowns
• the role and function of a prosecutor in the criminal justice system

ADVANCED INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

You are able to demonstrate:

• superior interpersonal, relationship management, presentation, and communication skills
• conference planning experience
• an understanding and awareness of drug and driving issues
• excellent writing skills
• proven judgment and analytical abilities to determine appropriate key issues and set priorities accordingly
• a superior ability to research, analyze and organize a principled approach to cases and issues
• a sophisticated ability to work as part of a team within the criminal justice system and with community stakeholders

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES AND SKILLS

You are able to:

• travel to other court locations to support the prosecution team across the Region
• work effectively with technology including the presentation of evidence in a courtroom setting

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSESSMENT:

All external Ontario Public Service (OPS) job ads are posted in English and French. Check the “position(s) language” section at the top of each job ad for the language requirements. For all roles, candidates are assessed in English, the business language of the OPS. If the position is bilingual (English/French), you’ll also need to pass a French-language proficiency test.

The successful candidate will take a senior, specialized role to assist in the training and prosecution of Drugs and Driving cases. Duties will include:

• Providing training to Crowns, police, Victim Services and the public on the investigation and prosecution of drugs and driving cases
• Providing search and other litigation advice to the police and Crowns
• Preparing resources for drugs and driving cases and providing strategic advice to the division on how to better enhance our prosecution of these cases through the creation of policy, best practices, written correspondence, briefing materials, and legal advice for the Criminal Law Division
• Providing in court assistance on, and conducting prosecutions of, drugs and driving cases as assigned within the East region
• Participating in inter-Ministerial and multidisciplinary teams as assigne
