As a Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprentice, you will be responsible for developing the skills and knowledge of a Quantity Surveyor on the HS2 project assisting in the management of cost, delivery and governance of commercial contractual aspects as pertaining to the specific team or department.
The Apprenticeship Programme will span over a period of 36 months, which will involve working at HS2 and studying at college. As part of the apprenticeship, you will gain an internationally recognised Level 4 Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
We have a total of x1 apprenticeship opportunity based with our Integrated Project Team as part of our joint venture partner Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall (EKFB). This role will be based on site with travel across site locations including but not limited to: Aylesbury, Twyford, Brackley. Please note that this site cannot be accessed by public transport, therefore the successful candidate will need to be able to get to and from site accordingly. The role will also require travel to various other site and office locations across the HS2 line of route. – with the requirement to travel to various site locations across the HS2 line of route.
HS2 Apprentices join us in September 2025, where you will have a full Induction into HS2 and meet your apprentice cohort. You will attend a learning week every 6 months, which is designed to develop core skills, knowledge and behaviours required on the HS2 Project. You will be supported by your day-to-day team and the Early Careers and Education team, where regular team meetings are set up, 1:1’s are provided, and every apprentice is assigned a mentor for their durations as well as a team buddy
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects:
Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
Understand the different types of procurement process and negotiation requirements.
Understand the principles and responsibilities imposed by law and other regulations in a construction environment.
Understand different construction techniques and materials and the principles of design.
Understand the sustainability issues in projects across economic, social, and environmental aspects.
Assisting on final accounting subcontract packages
Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
Working on NEC & other forms of contract
Understand different forms of contracts used in construction and why they are applied in different situations.
Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
Understand the importance of controlling costs during a construction project and the effect of changes to the project.
Understand different construction techniques and materials and the principles of design.
Final account preparations and submissions.
Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
Keep track / update of the Works Order Data
Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.
Understand the various forms of reporting on project progress.
