SALARY: $66,610 TO $95,753 PER ANNUM (BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS)

A Staff Scientist 2 position is available in molecular and gynaecologic pathology which encompasses basic, translational and clinical research on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers. This role is ideal for a highly motivated MD/PhD (preferred) or PhD graduate to join the highly productive and dynamic translational research group. The Staff Scientist will lead and oversee various research projects within the Ovarian Cancer Research (OVCARE) Program of BC. The Staff Scientist is expected to contribute significantly to the scientific development and writing of grant proposals to national and international funding agencies.
This position will work with and interact extensively with a multidisciplinary team of researchers (molecular geneticists, cell biologists, bioinformaticians) and clinicians (pathologists, medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists. The Staff Scientist will work with a team of researchers including multiple Principal Investigators, to lead and oversee multiple research projects at various stages of development within OVCARE’s research portfolio. These include but are not limited to:
(1) understanding the pathogenesis of high grade serous carcinoma for the development of better prevention strategies,
(2) understanding the biology related to the protective effects of oral contraceptives on ovarian cancer prevention,
(3) identifying molecular and epigenetic features of high-risk endometriosis and use these features to generate and characterize new mouse models of endometriosis-associated ovarian cancers,
(4) deciphering the roles of chromatin remodeling proteins in the pathogenesis of small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type, perform preclinical therapeutic studies, and generate and characterize new mouse models of the disease,
(5) studying of the pathogenesis of vulvar, endometrial, and other gynaecologic malignancies.
Applicants with a MD/PhD or PhD, a strong background in gynaecologic and molecular pathology, and a proven track record in molecular biology research, preferably with oncogenes/tumor suppressor genes, signal transduction, chromatin and gene transcription, and mouse models of cancer, are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who have certification by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. Minimum 5 years of experience in translational research and clinical research of ovarian cancer is essential.

• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and leadership experience.
• Ability to work in a complex team environment and to prioritize and address needs while leading multiple projects at various stages of development.
• Proven ability to manage a group of research staff and trainees.
• Strong understanding of ovarian cancer precursors (origin), biology and pathogenesis.
• Proven experience in managing large consortia-based and multi-Institute, multi-PI ovarian cancer projects. Proven track record in applying for operating and program grants (including complex, multi-PI, multi-institute program project grants) from national and international agencies.
• Skilled in laser capture microdissection, multi-color immunohistochemistry, tissue microarray construction and analysis.
• Understanding of novel genomic technologies and bioinformatics.
