As part of the Coinbase x402 team, you’ll help define and evolve this protocol alongside the broader open-source community, while also building the developer tools, SDKs, and payment infrastructure that bring x402 to life. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of crypto, payments, agentic commerce, and open standards, shaping how money moves on the internet for the next decade. What you’ll be doing: Defining the x402 protocol standard for the internet-native payment protocol Building and maintaining x402 related products such as the x402 SDK, Payment MCP, Payment Facilitators, and onchain payment protocols. Collaborating with open-source contributors to evolve the standard through GitHub discussions, issues, and PR reviews. What we look for in you: 6+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on backend development working closely with frontend engineers; crypto experience is a plus Strong experience in building scalable and secure software and SDKs Proficiency with Golang, Typescript, and Python. Knowledge of Web3 technologies, stablecoins, smart contracts, and wallets. Nice to haves: Experience with AI and emerging AI protocol standards (MCP, A2A).
