PMLD TUTOR WITH MAKATON & PECS EXPERIENCE | SOUTH BIRMINGHAM

Connex Education is recruiting for a Qualified Teacher to work on a one-to-one basis with a primary-aged student with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who is not currently attending school.
This flexible tutoring role allows you to manage your own timetable while working outside of a traditional classroom — giving you the unique chance to see the direct impact of your teaching on a student’s progress and wellbeing.

Tuition takes place in the student’s home and requires a highly tailored, play-based approach to support engagement and develop essential skills. The student is non-verbal, with significant speech and language developmental delay, so experience with PECS, Makaton, and other alternative communication methods is essential.
Your sessions will use sensory and interactive learning, with clear structure and routine, using objects of reference, symbols, pictures, and a now/next board to help the student communicate and understand.
We’re looking for a tutor who can offer a calm, nurturing, consistent environment, and who can adapt strategies creatively to keep the student engaged.

Role Requirements:
✅ QTS / QTLS or equivalent teaching qualification
✅ Proven experience supporting students with PMLD and ASD
✅ Confident using PECS, Makaton and other alternative communication strategies
✅ Experience delivering sensory-based, play-led sessions
✅ Patient, resilient and adaptable
✅ Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Full driving licence (preferred but not essential)
Start date: September 2025 | End date: End of Academic Year
