We have an immediate opening in Fort Worth, TX for a Product Engineer with a passion for the automotive industry. This is a hybrid position that combines Product Design & Development with Manufacturing Engineering. The successful candidate will have the ability to design and develop sheet metal and tubular products as well as create and improve manufacturing processes on the shop floor. This is an outstanding role for someone who doesn’t want to sit in a cubicle all day, confined to a computer screen.
As Product Engineer, you’ll manage the entire process, from conception to production. This role is fun but not for the faint of heart because we have high expectations with regard to accuracy and timeliness of your work. You’ll need great 3D CAD skills, of course, but you’ll need to be handy with a wrench as well. You’ll need to effectively interact with vendors and customers, so excellent verbal and written communication skills are important too.

This is a hands-on Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer position familiar with the design and manufacture of steel, stainless steel and aluminum sheet & tubular products. Specific product lines may include: Truck/SUV exterior accessories, Tool boxes, and Public Safety vehicle accessories.
Requirements:
· BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Manufacturing Engineering.
· 3-5 years minimum experience or internship in a related field is a plus.
· Must be a hands on engineer with mechanical aptitude familiar with steel and aluminum component design and manufacturing involving the areas of tube bending, machining, welding, and fabrication. Should have the ability to operate standard metal shop fabricating equipment.
· 3-5 years of experience using Solidworks sheet metal design required.
· Should be capable in all standard Windows Office software.
· Good Communication skills; Oral, Written, & Report Writing.
· Detail Oriented is a must
· Reports to the Director of Engineering

New Product Development: Responsibilities will be in the design of exterior Truck, Commercial and Public Safety accessories from concept, fabrication of prototypes, through to mass production in Westin’s Manufacturing facility. The modeling environment will be in Solid Works working with hard part development. New product work will cause interaction with Sales/Marketing and other corporate departments. Design documentation will be released through an Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
Product Extensions: Work will be performed to extend the existing product lines to adapt to the latest Truck & Police Vehicle platform variations by trim and model year to ensure all product lines remains current for the company catalog. Any design revisions for the newer vehicle variants are developed and documented into ECO product releases.
Product Design Validation and Verification, (V&V): Must ensure that specific designs meet all applicable internal, state, and federal specifications and safety standards. Also, this requirement involves the evaluation First Article production samples to ensure drawing compliance. This task involves the areas of dimensional checks as well as fit and finish to verify the product meets company standards and quality performance characteristics.
Product Manufacturing Engineering: Will create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Routings associated with products design & developed. Will work closely with the Operations Manager in Westin’s Fort Worth location to design fixtures, determine optimum floor layouts, purchase equipment and work on various Continuous Improvement Projects related to manufacturing of sheet metal and tubular products.
