Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 3 clinical support worker to join our team.
We have a vacancy for a clinical assistant whose role will be to support the Diabetic and High Risk Foot Service team based at Battle House , Northampton General Hospital. The Diabetic and High Risk Foot service in Northamptonshire has a wide range of clinical specialist teams covering diabetes and tissue viability.
We would like to recruit a keen, enthusiastic member of staff with experience of clinical support. You must enjoy working with others and supporting clinicians treating a high risk diabetic foot caseload and assisting with minor surgery.
You will be part of a team that supports the delivery of Podiatry and plays an important role in the smooth running of clinics. The role encompasses delivering delegated patient care under the guidance of a podiatrist and assisting with nail surgery.
Ideally you will have a good general education and knowledge and experience of using Microsoft office suite including Excel. Administrative experience and System 1 clinical record experience would be advantageous.
The post holder will need to be able to travel between sites and attend staff meeting. Clinical supervision and training will be offered.
You will be able to act as the first point of contact for the general public and may provide holiday/sick leave cover for the receptionist as needed.
You will be a team player with good communication and organisational skills who is interested in developing themselves and the service further.
To assist in diabetic wound care clinics as directed by the podiatrist e.g. call patients into clinic and prepare the patient for treatment, removing hosiery, taking down dressings.
When treatment is complete, apply dressing as delegated by the podiatrist.
Under the direction of the podiatrist make entries in the clinical record.
To assist the podiatrist in minor surgery procedures by making the room ready for use, recording drug information and providing the podiatrist sterile dressings as required.
The clinical assistant will be responsible for the management of clinical equipment and infection control processes.
To greet patients on arrival, check appointment times, and direct patients to appropriate waiting areas.
To support patient transport issues i.e. delayed pick ups and facilitate / expedite as needed.
Be the first point of contact for telephone enquires on behalf of the community podiatry team. Using own judgement to establish the validity and priority of the contact on services and directing messages on, as appropriate.
To chase non attenders of the highest risk and facilitate further appointments at an appropriate interval.
To carry out general administration duties such as photocopying and electronic communications when required by the clinical team to ensure smooth running of clinics and through put of patients.
This is a very busy clinic and accessed by a wide variety of people from all age groups. You will, therefore, need a range of skills which will include good interpersonal skills, the ability to produce clear and accurate documentation, good verbal and written communications and good organisational skills, as well as a calm, helpful attitude and a flexible approach to your workload.
NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
