We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to lead financial reporting, compliance, audit, and statutory accounting activities for a large NSW Government department. Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for the delivery of statutory financial reporting, taxation compliance, audit management, financial controls, and technical accounting advice. You will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity across the organisation while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and supporting the development of finance team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate year-end statutory financial statements and associated audit requirements.
• Manage internal and external financial reporting obligations in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and relevant legislative requirements.
• Coordinate taxation compliance activities, including GST, FBT and Payroll Tax reporting.
• Provide specialist financial and technical accounting advice to stakeholders across the organisation.
• Oversee month-end and year-end accounting processes, ensuring strong financial controls and accurate reporting outcomes.
• Support the maintenance and management of fixed asset registers, depreciation processes, asset stocktakes and related reporting.
• Assist in the development and enhancement of financial policies, procedures, frameworks and controls.
• Drive process improvement initiatives across accounting, reporting and financial systems.
• Support financial audits and coordinate responses to audit findings and recommendations.
• Contribute to executive reporting, annual reporting requirements and other key governance deliverables.
• Mentor and support finance staff, helping to build capability and maintain high performance standards.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience preparing statutory financial statements and managing audit processes.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of Australian Accounting Standards.
• Experience managing complex financial reporting requirements and competing priorities.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience providing high-level financial advice to senior leaders.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to work autonomously and meet strict deadlines.
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring staff.
• Exposure to government, public sector or highly regulated environments will be highly regarded.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline.
• CA or CPA qualification.
• Ability to satisfy pre-employment screening requirements, including a criminal history check.
• Commitment to maintaining professional independence and impartiality.
• NSW Government experience is preferred but not essential.
