Description The Research Projects Manager will be assigned two main areas of responsibility – Cores Administration and Center Management. Cores Administration: This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial and business practices of multiple pediatric research cores to facilitate data driven decision-making. Using core usage and financial data, this person plans, recommends, develops, and operationalizes approaches to meet a variety of research-specific needs. Markets to and recommends appropriate use of these cores to health scientists. Manages and maintains a core usage and billing software solution (PPMS, Stratacore) and actively monitors usage and conducts invoicing, and billing in accordance with NIH Uniform Guidelines. Collect and analyzes data to drive the creation of reports to assess, monitor, and communicate core status to research leadership via special meetings and presentations. The ideal candidate must have a proven capacity to learn about different areas of pediatric research to connect researchers to the scientific approaches they will find most valuable. The areas of pediatric research include but are not limited to cancer, blood disorders, cystic fibrosis, asthma, infectious diseases, cardiac, neurology, autoimmune disorders. The selected candidate will join an existing dynamic team of research and administrative leaders working together towards fulfilling our mission of transforming child health through high-impact research. The chosen candidate will serve as the day-to-day Cores Administrator for several pediatric scientific cores (http://www.pedsresearch.org/research/cores/). Center Management: The position also has additional responsibilities for managing the logistics of a Pediatric Research Center. The selected candidate will develop plans for program growth and development and serve as a liaison to various committees or organizations working with the respective Center Directors. Responsibilities include overseeing the planning, logistics and implementation of various special events such as lectures, seminars, conferences, research projects and symposia. The position also participates in developing and implementing various program related communications such as newsletters, websites/webpages, publications, multimedia or video productions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for managing complex research projects. Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, assists in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines and procedures to collect required data. Coordinates various aspects of the study. Drafts and may edit text for studies. Analyzes data, identifies data discrepancies and researches and identifies causes. May perform statistical analysis of numerical data. Actively contributes to the development of research protocols. Determines how research methodologies or tools must be modified. Ensures that study data and systems are maintained and accurately documented. Analyzes data and develops reports to assess or monitor study performance and treatment results; may develop associated operational and statistical reports for management and regulatory agencies. May oversee regulatory compliance efforts. May develop and submit grant proposals and advise principal investigator of changes in reporting or accounting requirements. May monitor expenses and receipts for active protocols. Coordinates and conducts special meetings and presentations. Coordinates computer support for ancillary studies conducted at off-site locations. Collaborates on reports and papers. Assists in the preparation of tables and graphs for publication and presentation. May design and develop databases related to specific programs at the request of supervisor and/or Principal Investigator. Performs related responsibilities as required. ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: Invoicing and rate setting for various pediatric cores. Quarterly reporting preparation and presentations. Leading regular meetings with core directors, technical directors, and the research leadership team Organization and participation in various cores and research-related events such as training events, symposia, conferences, and networking events. Marketing and communications. Managing PPMS. Equipment and data management. Partnering with Research Center faculty Directors to manage strategic plans for center vision, scope, and growth. Meet regularly with Center leaders to ensure the Center’s research activities are aligned with Center goals and Emory and Children’s strategic initiatives. Manage the planning, logistics, and implementation of Center visitors/seminars and other related events on a weekly, monthly, or annual schedule. Monitor Center budget expenditures. Manage pilot grant processes and track pilot progress once awarded. Track Center metrics including publications, funding, other research activities, and pilot return on investment. Partner with the Center Director to prepare the Center’s annual progress report, including preparing the presentation of report findings for the Pediatric Institute’s Research Advisory Council. Manage content and updates for Center webpages (pedsresearch.org) including Center membership/profiles and related research team and lab pages. Write and edit Center communications including the creation and distribution of newsletters, social media content, reports, and other written material, as needed. Manage special groups within the Center, e.g., research in progress, monthly research investigator meetings, special operations steering committees. Coordinate recruitment activities for research faculty related to Centers following standardized operating procedures. Participate in weekly Research Operations team meetings. Utilize the team’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and contribute to the regular revision and creation of new SOPs as needed. Participate in and contribute to group events, including conferences and symposia. May partner with Emory and Children’s foundations on philanthropic efforts related to Center’s mission. May provide project management and operational oversight for pediatric cores. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, sociology, and psychology or related discipline and two years of professional level research experience, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Excellent oral and written communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Exceptional organizational and written / oral communication skills as well as high enthusiasm to promote the child health research efforts of faculty and trainees are desired. While a health science PhD is preferred for this position, those with an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training may also be suitable. Previous experience with or familiarity with the purpose, function, and appropriate use of scientific cores (service centers). Previous experience with or familiarity with managing the operations of a research center. Understanding of rate setting practices rooted in managerial accounting principles. Familiarity if not previous hands-on experience in the conduct of health science research including as a user of a scientific core. If the candidate does not already possess a foundational understanding of the scientific use of all cores, they must have a proven track record in the ability to collect and analyze data, assess trends, and make data-driven decisions. NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.
