Madsen also provides custom power management solutions and protection systems to end-users. We have an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman /women Parts Technician within our team in our Edmonton office. Reporting to the sales department manager, the successful candidate will be accountable inventory management. You will play a critical role in the supply chain and operations team, overseeing the procurement, inventory, and distribution of components and parts used in automation and control systems. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who understands the importance of timely parts availability and accurate inventory management to support project deadlines and customer satisfaction.
The successful candidate will also become a crucial part of our inside sales team working out of our Edmonton Alberta office full time on a Monday to Friday schedule.
While not a direct requirement knowledge of Diesel/gas engine and power generation control systems would also be desired as your main role would be supporting Woodward controls within Canada. Knowledge pertaining to control systems and components related to steam turbines or gas turbines, experience in either or PLC based control systems would be highly beneficial but not a direct requirement.
The ideal candidate will have some level of mechanical aptitude, ability to learn basic concepts of automation control systems and hydraulic/mechanical / pneumatic parts. Experience in an ERP based accounting system such as Sage 300 or equivalent is necessary for this role. Ability to utilize stocking min / max systems, place PO’s to vendors, use vendor ordering portals, receive and reconcile parts, and stock parts would be key requirements. This role also requires receiving and shipping customer items sent in for repair and coordinating with AP/AR dept.
Experience in coordinating in and outbound freight to the US would be an asset as well. Use of forklift for loading / unloading freight and ability to lift 50-70lbs would be needed.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manage the sourcing, ordering, and inventory control of parts and components related to automation systems, PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and control panels..
  • Maintain optimal stock levels to meet project timelines and service needs without overstocking.
  • Develop relationships with vendors and negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and terms to ensure cost efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, service, and production teams to forecast parts requirements based on upcoming projects and service calls.
  • Implement and maintain inventory management systems (e.g., ERP/MRP software).
  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments for quality and accuracy.
  • Manage parts returns, exchanges, and warranty claims with suppliers.
  • Generate reports on inventory turnover, shortages, and purchasing trends.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards in the warehouse or storage area.
  • Bill of Materials creation

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience in a parts/inventory management or supply chain role—preferably in automation, industrial controls, manufacturing, or a technical field.
  • Strong knowledge of components used in control systems (PLCs, sensors, relays, VFDs, etc.) is a major plus.
  • Proficiency with inventory software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
  • Strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic work environment
  • Excellent time management skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Professional team player with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • A positive, “can-do” attitude and client focused approach
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification as parts technician required.
  • Forklift certification ( role includes hands-on warehouse tasks).
