ABOUT THE ROLE

We have a new opportunity of Head of Operational Excellence and Fire Safety. We’re looking someone who is solutions focused and can support teams in improving standards across our housing development building sites.

As the post holder you will act as the primary regional ambassador and lead for quality operations, driving the approach of right-first-time and nurturing a 360-degree Quality Assurance model that dynamically captures areas of underperformance to mitigate risk, shape future learning and avoid repeated events.
This post supports the business in meeting all required legislation and quality standards by way of designing process, managing and consulting on all matters of operational excellence. The role will include regular formal inspection, project management, evaluating learning and risk, developing policy and standard operating procedures, coaching, acting as a consultant on standards with the team, stake holders and the supply chain.
The post holder will provide clear leadership, consultancy and management of the untypical groups built environment fire safety obligations across fire remediation, current build and future fire safety policy development. The role demands in-depth knowledge and relevant experience in new homes and construction operational excellence in addition to sound working knowledge of the building Safety Act and the Building Safety Regulator.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

• Develop and maintain quality-process systems with the team in line with the Quality Assurance, Health and Safety and customer experience frameworks.
• Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on quality activities. Take the lead working with the regional teams to promote, educate and drive the untypical operational culture working in close collaborative partnership with your peer group heads of function namely SHE, Quality and Customer Services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF FIRE REMEDIATION:

• Identifying and assessing fire safety defects: This involves conducting thorough inspections of buildings to identify potential fire hazards, such as faulty fire doors, inadequate compartmentation, or non-compliant cladding.
• Developing and implementing remediation plans: Based on the assessment, the officer will create detailed plans outlining the necessary repairs, upgrades, and fire safety measures required to rectify the identified issues.
• Managing contractors and overseeing works: The officer will coordinate with qualified contractors to carry out the necessary fire remedial works, ensuring that the work is completed to the required standards and within the agreed timeframe.
• Ensuring compliance with building regulations and fire safety codes: The officer will ensure that all remediation works are carried out in accordance with relevant building regulations, fire safety codes, and other relevant legislation.
• Communicating with residents and stakeholders: The officer will keep residents and other stakeholders informed about the progress of the remediation works, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
• Managing documentation and records: The officer will maintain accurate records of all inspections, assessments, remediation works, and related correspondence.
• Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems. Support the business to ensure quality and environmental KPIs are met by working to the overall quality and ESG plan, including management of, and reporting.
• Implement all relevant procedures required by the Quality Operations framework and Systems to ensure full compliance.
• Ensure that all in-house systems and procedures are updated, revised and modified to meet the needs of external bodies.
• Respond to areas of standard failure and identified areas of opportunity by putting in containment actions, full analysis, and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures.
• Champion a program for the implementation and sustainment of a continuous improvement culture in the operational space.
• Update operational quality documentation and communicate to carry forward lessons learned from observations and inspections.
• Ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place to satisfy all business quality and environmental requirements.

GENERAL ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKING:

• Provide standards and operational consultation to our construction, technical, safety, customer care teams and out contractor trades.
• Educate and mentor others in all aspects of the operational framework, systems and best practice.
• Undertake internal and process reviews of the operational performance.
• Provide consultation in the review and agreed actions in regard to resolution of internal/external operational quality concerns.
• Review and refine operational methods of work, policies, standards and documentation.
• Report against agreed quality metrics on a monthly basis.
• Lead regular meetings with representatives from appropriate departments to establish an action plan for improving operational quality.
• Attend meetings and action/communicate instructions when required.
• Produce written reports and make presentations within the area of expertise.
• Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the operational quality environment including legislation, building regulations, NHBC / Premier standards and opportunities and change within the organisation.
• Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors. Working closely with the SHE team, conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
