The Opportunity: Protection and Systems Engineer Permanent, Full-Time position, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.  Are you a Protection and Systems Engineer looking for an opportunity to work on critical power infrastructure in one of Canada’s most unique and remote regions? Yukon Energy is seeking a skilled engineer to join our team in Whitehorse, Yukon—where your expertise helps power communities across the territory.                        What will you do: As a member of the Electrical Engineering team, you will: * Design, implement, and maintain protection, control, and monitoring systems to support the safe and reliable operation of Yukon Energy’s generation, transmission, and distribution network. * Perform relay setting calculations, develop protection settings and coordination studies, and analyze system events to improve system reliability and performance. * Support operations, maintenance, and capital projects by providing technical expertise and ensuring new equipment and upgrades integrate with existing protection and control systems. What you need to succeed:   * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred) and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Yukon. An Electrical Engineering Technology diploma with significant utility experience and eligibility for a Limited License (L.L.Eng.) may also be considered. * Several years of progressive experience in protection and control within a utility environment, including relay testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and supporting operations and maintenance activities. * Experience conducting protection coordination studies, relay setting development, and system event or outage investigations, with the ability to identify root causes and recommend improvements. * Familiarity with capital project delivery, including design review, equipment selection, procurement support, and commissioning of protection and control systems. * Working knowledge of protection principles for generators, transformers, buses, and transmission lines, along with applicable IEEE, CSA, and NETA standards. * Experience with power system analysis tools such as ASPEN OneLiner, ETAP, CYME, or PSS/E, and relay configuration tools such as SEL AcSELerator QuickSet and related protection and automation software. * Familiarity with SCADA, protection communications, and control systems such as DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus, Ethernet, and fiber-optic networks. * Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, operations, and field teams. * Valid Class 5 driver’s license, and the ability to travel to remote sites as required.
