This position performs a wide range of duties under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.   CLINIC DUTIES: Perform clinical procedures, to include: Properly take vital signs and input them into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Perform intake interviews (including Hepatitis assessments, allergies, HIV pre/post counselling, and pregnancy status) and input into EHR. Prepare patients for the clinician’s exam, administer basic first aid, assist with patient examinations, operate office medical equipment and perform aseptic procedures. Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the clinician by performing basic laboratory procedures to include pregnancy test and venipuncture. Input lab requests into Emdeon, manifest labs at the end of the day, package and transport lab specimens as required by local protocols.   CLINIC SUPPORT SEVICES:   Prepares clinic area for clinic service (i.e. stock supplies, maintain equipment) Maintain educational folders for each exam room, prepare supply requisitions weekly and store supplies in assigned locations.  Keep clinic area clean and free from hazards for clients.  Clean exam rooms per “Infection Control Policies”.  Follow OSHA standards for Hazardous Waste.   CLERICAL SUPPORT SERVICES: Give information and refer telephone clients as needed. Make appointments in HMS, check-in clients in HMS and Florida SHOTS, prepare charts for type of visit.  Take messages for clerical staff, other HSTs, nurses and clinicians.  Shred confidentiality papers as assigned.  Review posted schedule of assigned duties of other support members.  Record all services completed on clients Encounter Forms for the Lab Ensure Labs request forms are taking to the Lab as soon as the clinician completes it. Perform office procedures including all general administration duties required, (i.e. coding for reimbursement, patient education, recording histories, etc.) Input real time Employee Accountability Record (EAR) data into the Health Management System (HMS) daily and certify the data daily. Perform QI of EHRs monthly.   IN-SERVICE/STAFF DEVELOPMENT & OTHER RELATED DUTIES: Participate in in-service and staff development programs related to job performance.   Other related duties, which may include clinic and emergency assignments as required.   Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of community resources. Ability to work with diverse patient populations having a variety of physical problems. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of basic lab procedures to include collection of blood via venipuncture or fingerstick. Ability to prepare and read CLIAA waived tests and input results into EHR/HMS.  Ability to prepare specimens (blood, urine and swab specimens). Knowledge of sterile processing procedures: cleaning, packaging and sterilization of medical instruments. Ability to use an autoclave for medical instruments sterilization. Ability to accurately document each autoclave load to include spore tests.   Qualifications: Minimum – 1 to 3 years of experience in a clinical setting with phlebotomy skills. Certification in Phlebotomy, Certification as Medical Assistant or Certification Nursing Assistant required. Preferred - 3 or more years of well documented experience in a clinical office setting with excellent phlebotomy skills.
