Description

Pavement Analyst (EIT)
GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated Pavement Analyst (EIT) to join our Team. GEMTEC management understands that creative, talented employees are our most important asset, and that investing in employee development is an investment in our firm. We strive to have employees that are multi-faceted and versatile with a variety of skills.
We currently have an opening for a full time Pavement Analyst (EIT) in our Barrie, ON office.
The successful candidate will have the following:

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a recognized bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. A bachelor’s degree in geotechnical or pavement engineering, or work experience in pavement engineering, would be an asset.
  • Eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng.).
  • Familiarity with pavement design methods including AASHTO 93 and AASHTOWare Pavement ME would be an asset.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime and travel, as required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills
Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to a wide variety of pavement projects, including the preparation and supervision of field programs, data collection, data analysis, technical report writing, and proposal preparation.
  • Plan and oversee geotechnical field investigations including asphalt core and borehole logging, test pit logging, soil sampling, and pavement non-destructive testing, as well as associated field coordination and sub-contractor coordination.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Ontario. Extended periods on project sites will be required, with a specific focus on project sites located in Northern Ontario.
  • Safely conduct work both in the office and field; geotechnical drilling investigations may take place in all seasons and weather conditions, requiring the ability to physically operate manual hand-augering and asphalt coring equipment (ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance is required – significant manual labour component required).
  • Assisting senior staff in preparing technical proposals and cost estimates, and writing technical reports, presenting field findings, data analysis results, recommendations, etc.
  • Assisting senior staff in performing design and analytical functions on projects involving pavement rehabilitation and widening design, and treatment of pavement distress areas.
  • Ability and willingness to complete periodic night work on highways.
